The Program for Converting Diesel Generators to Gas is Hampered by Economic Value

The economic value of the diesel to gas conversion program for power generation is still hampered. In fact, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk has committed to work on the gasification project of 52 diesel power plants or PLTD owned by PLN. President Director of PGN Suko Hartono said that during the conversion discussion process, PLN as the owner of the PLTD was not open. This is mainly related to the gas demand data required for the gasification project. The data that PLN has presented so far are not included in the company’s economic calculation. He also asked the state electricity company to be open about the use of gas allocations.

This condition is a challenge for the commercialization of PGN gas. On the other hand, this project is a government assignment as stipulated in the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 13 of 2020.
